WOMEN’S WELLNESS

We assure you a very pleasaNt, speedy and comfortable experience

The floor plan is designed to enable you to complete all your recommended investigations here, in this one place.

At the entrance is a reception cum billing area which handles all administration formalities. Adjoining this is a large waiting lounge whose aesthetically pleasing interiors are designed by one of Malaysia’s premier design consultant. The lounge has a large closet space with individual lockers that provide ample storage for your personal items. Here, you can change in comfort and privacy into the examination robe that will be given to you upon registering.

The workflow in the department is designed like a circuit, so you go from one investigation to another without time delays and without having to repeatedly dress and undress. Once you have completed your investigations, you can change back into your regular clothes and discard the examination rove into the large laundry bins. The change from your clothing to examination robe is required only once and you are thus saved a lot of time that, in most other places, is lost running around and between departments with necessary but uncomfortable dress changing routines.

BREAST CLINIC

In Women’s Wellness we have clustered together all investigations of the breast under one roof.

Complete Clinical Breast Examination (CBE)
Mammogram with Computed Radiography (CR)

We have the latest machine from the GE stable, Alpha RT, which digitises all images in collaboration with Fuji, the world leader in Computed Digitized Radiography. All your images will be presented to you in your own personal CD which you can then store in your computer for easy access. At our end, Fuji’s digitising technology allows us easy storage of your files, gives our doctors instant computerised access to them.

The advantage of the Fuji CR system is that we instantaneously review the images on our monitors. This aids the assessment of the images for technical soundess right after the X-Ray is taken and once it is passed, your examination is complete. With the instatnaneous replay of our Fuji CR, you are spared unnecessary repeats and recalls and your CD is printed and ready by the time you reach the reception area.

OBSTETRICS & GYNAECOLOGY

We offer a fully equipped gynaecology suite in Women’s Wellness. The suite is also fitted with the capability to conduct minor procedures at site. These procedures include pap smear, transvaginal ultrasound, colposcopy and biopsies.

Pap Smear

This is a very simple test that takes a couple of minutes at most and is performed as a routine addition to your pelvic exam. Whle performing a pelvic exam, your gynaecologist will use a stick or a brush to remove some cells from the surface of the cervix. A Pap Smear is recommended for all women after the age of 21 as long as they are sexually active. It is empirically proven that periodic screening with Pap Smears aid early diagnosis and treatment of cervical cancer, a treateable form of cancer if caught early. Pap Smears are painless and the procedure takes less than a couple of additional minutes during a pelvic exam.

Transvaginal Ultrasound

The procedure uses the same ultrasound machine and technology as with the regular abdominal or pelvic ultrasound; the term Transvaginal is use dto describe  the probe used for thei procedure. The Transvaginal prove is a high frequencey probe that uses sound to san and collect images, through the vagina, of the uterus, ovaries, and cervix along with other structures in the pelvis.

Colposcopy

Colcoscopy is usually recommended as a follow up study for a Pap Smear. If a Pap Smear shows signs of infection, inflammation or areas of uncertainty in the vagina or the cervis, your gynaecologist might want to take a closer look at the area than is usually visible on a pelvic exam. The instrument that allows your doctor this greater visibility is called a Colposcope. The Colposcope has an in built microscope.

Biopsies

To make a confirmatory diagnosis of disease, a small sample of tissue is required for pathological analysis. Pathological analysis is the process of treating the sample with special stains and preservatives to be ovserved under a microscope for visualising the detail of the cell and tissue structure. Cervical and vaginal biopsies are done useng a Colposcope in the same method as described above.

CARDIOLOGY FOR WOMEN

One of the most neglected aspects of women’s health is cardiology and the heart. A possible reason is the popular misconception that cardiovascular risk and coronary heart disease is really more a disease of me than in women, since the incidence of the disease shows that that is the case. The actual fact on ground is that, while this is indeed true (for men than in women below age of 65), after 65 the risk equalises between men and women. Looking at the overall statistics, current thinking earmarks cardiovascular risk reduction and screening programs as a high priority.

Keeping this in mind, Women’s on the Fourth has designed the cardiac screening rooms en-suite with Women’s Wellness. So you can complete your entire cardiac consultation and investigations without ever having to leave the department.

Cardiac Consultation Offices
Treadmill Test

Our daily life’s routines involve tasks which don’t strain our heart and those that do. An adequate evaluation of your heart’s function is made only when the heart is teted both at rest and during activity. A stree treadmill test is prescribed to assess the function of your heart during activity. You will be asked to walk on the treadmill with ECG leads attached to your chest and a blood pressure cuff attached to your arm. This will allow us to monitor and record you rECG and blood pressure constantly for the duration of the test. The test is always performed under the supervision of your cardiologist.

Echo

An echocardiogram is an ultrasound of the heart. The procedure takes about 10 monutes and is totally painless. The ultrasonographer uses a probe to can the interior of your heart in three dimensions and in colour. The images are recorded on thermal paper and tagged onto your file. And Echo study of the heart reveals curcial information about the condition of of the heart valves, its pumping efficiency and detailed scrutiny of the heart’s structure itself.

ECG

A simple ECG test might be ordered by your cardiologist either as a follow up to your prior studies, as a routine part of your general check up or as an immediate first line study if you have any symptoms pertaining to the heart. A recording is taken on the ECG monitor, printed as a graph and tagged onto your files.

Blood Biochemistry

A simple prick of a vein in your arm or forearm will provide suffucuent blood to run tests for biochemical parameteres that indicate heart function and predict cardiovascular risk. These tests include enxyme studies, a detailed lipid profile and a detailed glucose profile.
